Did you know? :

The 1991 Copa Libertadores was the thirty-second edition of the most important club tournament in South America, organized by the South American Football Confederation, in which teams from ten South American countries participated: Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela.

The champion was Colo-Colo from Chile, who achieved his first title in the competition and established himself as the first club in his country - and to date, also the only one - to have achieved consecration in the cup. Thanks to this, he played the 1991 Intercontinental Cup against Red Star of Yugoslavia, the 1992 Inter-American Cup against Puebla of Mexico and the 1992 South American Recopa against Cruzeiro of Brazil. Likewise, it automatically qualified for the 1992 Copa Libertadores.

This edition had the particularity of being the first in which matches were played outside the Conmebol area, due to the sanction imposed by the confederation on Colombian clubs as a result of the alleged threats to referees during the 1990 Copa Libertadores. For this reason, América de Cali and Atlético Nacional had to play several of their home games in the United States.
