NOTE 2: This team was considered the best MLS squad/team to date in MLS's history, the 1998 D.C. United side lead by Marco Antonio Etcheverry and Jaime Moreno defeated Toluca of Mexico to win the 1998 CONCACAF Champions Cup and became the first American squad to win the event.  The final was played on August 16 at the aforementioned stadium and with controversial arbitration, DC United would win by the slightest difference.
