NOTE 1: ICON #6. AMAZING 1969/70 JEWEL. The jersey belonged to Omar Caetano, a former left-back who spent eleven years at Peñarol; during his time at the club, he claimed the number 6 shirt and never let it go, becoming one of the greatest icons in Peñarol's history—winning every competition he played in.
NOTE 2: OPEN -WEAVE ("CALADA") JERSEY STORY. The famous "open-weave" (*calada*) jersey was manufactured by the Uruguayan sports company "Fazio" using fabric imported from Argentina. It was created in response to a request from the players to the club's leadership—following a match played in high temperatures in Lima, Peru—to replace the traditional jersey, which became heavy due to sweat absorption. Peñarol was a pioneer in using this type of "open-weave" fabric
This "open-weave" jersey was worn during the 1969-1970 period, while jerseys not made of this material at the time were manufactured by the sports company Fornos y Mauri.
